Well done firstly to Beverley Snaith on her fabulous 6th place in the 100 class.
Patsy Pyke was best of 80 classes in 10th with Eddie. Jenny Millman was 11th with 44.8 time penalties on her novice ex-racehorse Edna, but clear jumping so she’s very happy with her. One for the future!
Sarah Turner jumped two lovely clears with her mare but needs a better satnav!
Kiki Anderson rode her inexperienced grey really well, he will be great with some more experience under his belt.
Thanks to our supporters Katie MJ, Rachel Reddihough, Caroline Holder and Linda Anderson and the girls who gave up their weekend to be helpers as fence judges.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our summer shows as we sadly lost our venue at the beginning of the year. We have a venue for the Show Jumping and are still searching for ways in which to hold our Showing, so watch this space!

Sunday 10th March ‘24
This weekend our Dressage riders competed at the BRC Intro Championships at Bury Farm.
They had an amazing time and Nicola Nicholls, Lynn Aucott, Nina Winrow & Jenny Millman all competed well on Saturday. They came a very creditable 4th out of 32 teams, with Lynn coming 4th individually and Nina 4th & 7th individually.
A special well done also to Lynn & Nicola who finished 3rd in the pairs competition on Sunday.
Incredible results, well done ladies!

A huge well done this evening to our very own chair Patsy Pyke who flew the East Shropshire Riding Club flag at the Area 5 awards evening in Lemington Spa.
Patsy finished Reserve Champion with her superstar ex-racehorse Eddie in the Dressage to Music.
She is a huge inspiration to our club having a go at all the team events and encouraging others to ‘have a go’ also.

Well our riders have had a fabulous time at BRC NAF Dressage qualifier at Morton Morrell.
Lynn Aucott and Nikki Nicholls came 1st in the pairs with 71.07 % and have qualified for the champs.
Kate Ness came 2nd with over 70% individual in Prelim 2 and also qualified.
Then ESRC Belles; Nikki Nicholls, Nina Winrow, Lynn Aucott and Patsy Pyke came 3rd just missing out on qualifying.
ESRC Divas; Julie Whittingham, Gemma Louise Simmons, Louise Glover and Kate Ness came 8th.
An amazing weekend for everyone involved and a huge thanks to all of you for supporting the club and riding super tests.

Cost £25 (ESRC members).
Robert competed, rode, and produced a variety of animals successfully both in hand and under saddle. Robert is on the BSPS, CHAPS UK, NPS, WPCS, BSHA, TSR, BMHS, WHP Flat and M&M. Judges M&M Native Breeds and is on the Connemara, New Forest and Welsh Panels. He has judged nationally and internationally and has been fortunate to have judged at The Horse of the Year Show and Royal International Horse Show several times.
Fantastic opportunity to have a practise run ahead of the showing season, we are sure Robert will give you tips to take home with you from a judges view to assist you in being successful in the show ring with your horse/pony, for you as a handler or rider.

As our second show is approaching this weekend I'd like to remind everyone that this is a volunteer run event.
At the previous show we had a lot of rubbish left at the show ground. Please note our volunteers are not there to pick up your rubbish but to ensure that our show is run smoothly and effectively.
As a BRC club we would like to remind competitors that one of the BRC rules regarding alcohol states as you are in close proximity of horses you should not be under the influence of alcohol. If these rules are broken you will be asked to leave the show ground.

They were just a few seconds away from the optimum time to finish in 12th place in a large class.
Thanks to Jenny Millman, Patsy Pyke, Denise Billingham and Beverley Higgs for supporting Kirstie.

Well done to our Eventer Challenge competitors today of Patsy Pyke, Leigh Jameson & Kirstie Morris.
Patsy & Leigh both flew the XC fences but unfortunately didn’t manage to leave all the show jumps up. Kirstie however showed them how it should be done winning her class!
Well done ladies, top effort. And we’ll done to their team manager Jenny Millman for braving the cold and the mud to support the girls.

ATTENTION …..New Whip rules for 2023.
British Riding Club has announced new whip rules. Please have a read and take note.
“A new British Riding Clubs (BRC) rule on whip use has been introduced to help educate riders and improve horse welfare.
BRC’s 2023 rules state that the whip must only be used to support the rider’s natural aids, and never when a horse or pony has turned away after a refusal, or after elimination. Use behind the rider’s leg or on the shoulder is allowed but never on the horse’s head or neck.
The rules state that appropriate whip use can be to help encourage a horse or pony to go forward, or to stay straight on the approach to a fence.
‘It must never be used to vent a rider’s temper; any use for such a reason is automatically excessive.’
Whips must also always be carried in the forehand position, with the handle pointing upwards, rather than backhand.
If a horse has refused once and is approaching a fence a second time, the whip may be used as back-up to the legs if needed; it is encouragement, not punishment, that is acceptable. Misuse of the whip can mean up to 25 penalties or disqualification.”

The Long Mynd & District Bridleways Association (LM&DBA) covers some of the most beautiful riding country in Shropshire including the heather moorland of The Long Mynd, the Stretton Hills, Wenlock Edge, the dramatic Stiperstones, and the striking Clee Hills. The area is crossed by a network of hundreds of byways, bridleways and quiet country lanes.
The Association's main aims are to ensure that our bridleway network is maintained and improved, and to provide opportunities for local and visiting riders to enjoy the Shropshire countryside. We have an active committee, produce an attractive full colour quarterly newsletter for our members, arrange organised rides, hold very popular quiz nights, organise clearance parties, annual holidays and hacks-for-a snack.
Since the Association was formed in 1996, the strength in our numbers, the relationships we have formed with land owners and tenants, our association with Shropshire Council in generating circular rides and assisting in bridleway maintenance, and our co-operation with The National Trust, Natural England and Shropshire Hills AONB have all done much to increase our influence.

The lovely Kathryn Roberts will be calling tests. Please let her know before you go in. £1 per test which will be donated to The Cavalier Centre.
Numbers on both sides please and remember to ride to the passenger side of the judge's car as you go into the Arena for the writer Sue Wiggin to see your number easily. Maximum 6 riders in the warm up please so do not ask Sarah J Davies until your allocated time (36mins beforehand).
No test riding or coaching in the warm up. Please keep to school rules and give everyone plenty of room.

This is basically Arena eventing on grass with classes from 70 through to 100cms.

Just because you never know when the worse can happen, we have had these cards made to display in the windscreen of your transport when you are attending an event.
If you hack to an event you can give them to a committee member or the instructor.
These will be going out to committee members as fast as possible, so make sure you collect one when you attend an event.

Many thanks Nikki, Cath, Sharon, Jenny and Lynn for helping make last nights Confidence and Dressage workshop run so smoothly.
Apologies to Nikki & Patsy who only had crisps to eat by the time they went up for food - apparently only two halves of rolls were allotted per person, but obviously someone will need to be monitored next time!
Lovely raffle prizes, thanks so much for donations which raised a nice £87.

Kate Ness is one of our fabulous judges at our Dressage League and she is hosting a workshop to help you improve your scores. Straight from the judges mouth!!
And that’s not all, Madeline Rose will also be giving a talk on being more confident because we all need a pep talk sometimes don’t we!
And how about we throw in a lovely pub buffet too!

We should be good to go with Amy, Louise Dunn, Heather Davies & Anne Kendrick. It’s an ideal opportunity to get some help hours completed early (towards your agreed 5 hours per year).

WINTER SHOW JUMPING QUALIFIERS 70cm & 80cm (Novice) on Sunday 19th February.
Entries are now being taken for the Area Winter SJ qualifiers at Solihull, but only for the Novice classes (70cm & 80cm). Anyone wanting to do 90cm+, entries will be open in a few weeks time.
This year, Area are splitting sponsors for the classes, so they are running the Novice (70cm & 80cm) & Intermediate (90cm +) at separate shows two weeks apart.
Both qualifier shows are being held at Solihull Riding Club, but the Novice Champs will be at Arena UK in Grantham and the Intermediate Champs will be at Onley Grounds in Rugby (if you qualify)
A little annoying as a lot of you did the 80 & 90 which means you now have to attend two separate shows.

Last year we had a total blast! There were some fabulous outfits, some great competition and lots of laughs in our fun classes.
All competitors get chocolates after their round and we have some fabulous gift bags kindly donated by our show sponsor Clipit Groom and Elwood Installations for our class winners and our best dressed juniors and seniors.

As of next year, the hat standards will be changing again. Some hats will no longer be in date so please make sure you all check your hats against the new standards.
You will also need to make sure if you compete at Area level that your hat has a green tag on it. If your hat hasn’t yet been tagged, the organisers will check your hat and do this for you at every Area event, so don’t panic.

Also well done to Sharon Stokes and her handsome Tom Wade for a clear round in the show jumping.

ESRC ONLY FOOLS ON HORSES ARE OFF TO THE TEAM QUEST NATIONALS!
So pleased that our ESRC Only Fools team are off to the British Dressage Team Quest Nationals after a surprise parcel in the post last week with replacement rosettes due to them issuing incorrect placings on the day of the regionals!
This meant they moved up to 8th place - this is the most amazing surprise.
Good luck girls and well done!

A huge congratulations to our Senior member and committee member Heather Stiles, who has qualified for the BD National My Quest Final 2022.
Her super mare Mini is regularly in the rosettes at our Dressage League competitions and we are very proud of them both.
Anybody wanting to go along and support Heather & Mini, she will be competing in the finals on Thursday 27th October at Bury Farm in Buckinghamshire.
Good luck from all of us Heather and we hope you and Mini have a great time!

Many thanks to Luke Cope for organising everyone, Louise Dunn for helping me to move all the jumps and steward, also thuge thanks to all those that helped - Tracy Caldwell for her egging everyone on so enthusiastically, Roxii Wills, Paige Davis, Janet Ford and Elle's Mum for videoing everybody. We will look forward to seeing the action photos from Sparkes Photography.
HUGE congratulations to Nicola Nicholls who swapped being a Dressage Diva with her super boy Bill to be 'Gymkhana Champion' just pipping Jenny Millman and the wonderful Holly by half a point.

This does mean we are getting closer to the awards night, so we need to call all the trophies back so that they can be presented to this years winners.
If you have a trophy please can you bring it to the next show (Sunday 2nd October at Breeze Farm, Rabbit Run) or get it to a member of the committee. Please remember to have any names engraved before they are returned.

We would like to give a HUGE thank you to Meria for all that she has done for the ESRC club and committee over the last couple of years.

Today the East Shropshire RC Only Fools on Horses Team Quest team received the amazing news that they have QUALIFIED FOR THE REGIONAL FINALS!
A massive thank you to everyone who has supported them over the last few months. The regionals are held at Tushingham Arena on 24th September 2022 if anyone would like to go and support them.

Today the East Shropshire RC Only Fools on Horses Team Quest team received the amazing news that they have QUALIFIED FOR THE REGIONAL FINALS!
A massive thank you to everyone who has supported them over the last few months. The regionals are held at Tushingham Arena on 24th September 2022 if anyone would like to go and support them.
As they look forward to the next Quest season starting in January 2023, please if anyone else would like to get involved let Gina Seggar know and she can start planning for the winter training and the season ahead.

She is now the National Champion of the 80cm Show Jumping, which is a huge honour for our club and we couldn’t be prouder of her & Diesel.

BRC Area 5 Combined Challenge (SJ & XC in grass arena) on Sunday 18th Sept 2022 at Swalcliffe Park Equestrian, Banbury, OX15 5EU.
Classes from 70cm to 100cm for both Junior and senior. Entry fee is £42 and all horse must be vaccinated in line with BRC rules.
If you want to take part please let Jenny Millman know which class, rider and horse (send her a copy of vaccination certificate unless already done area this year) and do bank transfer for £42 to ESRC by close of play on Wednesday 24th August.

As some of you are aware our wonderful committee member Denise (who has been on our committee for almost 20 years!) had the most worrying time on the 14th July when her horse Sam was involved in an accident at home. I thought this would be a nice way of thanking her for all her help from us at East Shropshire Riding Club by holding a tack sale to donate funds to assist with her vets bill.
Tables are £5 each. Sellers can arrive from 5.30pm to set up and doors will open at 6.00pm until 9pm.
It's always good to have a summer clear out ready for the sales to begin
There will cake, tea and coffee for sale as well as some great bargains.

Tack Sale Friday 2nd September at 6.00pm till 9pm at Tong Village Hall. Cost is £5 per table.
As some of you are aware our wonderful committee member Denise (who has been on our committee for almost 20 years!) had the most worrying time on the 14th July when her horse Sam was involved in an accident at home. I thought this would be a nice way of thanking her for all her help from us at East Shropshire Riding Club by holding a tack sale to donate funds to assist with her vets bill.
Tables are £5 each. Sellers can arrive from 5.30pm to set up and doors will open at 6.00pm until 9pm.
It's always good to have a summer clear out ready for the sales to begin
There will cake, tea and coffee for sale as well as some great bargains.
So please come along and support this event.

A huge congratulations to Laura Leigh who today received the news that she has officially qualified for the British Riding Clubs National Championships in Show Jumping at Lincoln Showground in September!
Competition at Area level is of a very high standard with tricky courses and solid fences. To win at Area level is something to be extremely proud of and we are super proud of Laura & Diesel who will be representing our Riding Club amongst the best in the country.
Well done Laura and lots of luck for Lincoln!

Anybody who is going who has not yet sent me copies of your Vaccinations page in your horses passport, and the front page with their name and passport number on, and paid your £12 entry fee per class-can you please do this by the start of next week!
ESRC have been very kind to pay your pre-entries which is an extra £12.50 so a huge THANKYOU to ESRC!!

Classes start from 70cm and go upto 1m20. There is also a style class.
If you finish Team or Individual 1st or 2nd, you will qualify for the Riding Club National Championships at Lincoln Showground on the weekend of September 3rd & 4th. It’s an amazing weekend not to be missed.
PLEASE KEEP THE CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEKEND FREE IF YOU ENTER THE QUALIFIERS! We had three teams qualify for the winter finals but nobody could go, which was a massive shame!

Well done to Kirstie Morris, Patsy Pyke & Nicola Nicholls competing in the Area Dressage to Music qualifiers at Warwick.
Kirstie came 5th in the individual novice freestyle with points and Patsy Pyke came 6th in the novice freestyle no points. Nicola didn’t come anywhere but she scored 65.56% with the wrong canter lead, but then corrected it. She was chuffed with her & Bill’s first effort at Area level.
Patsy & Kirstie then both did the novice pairs freestyle and came 2nd pipped to 1st by just one point on artistic marks!
Well done ladies. A wonderful experience although a long day as they switched your times at the end.

Many thanks to Laura Thearle for volunteering to write for the judge. We also need 2 stewards, someone to add up score sheets and give out rosette's,
someone to call tests. All help gratefully received and is your contribution to the running of the riding club.

Our next Summer Show on Sunday 5th June will be Jubilee themed!
There will be a special Fancy Dress competition held at 1pm in the Show Jumping ring (during the Show Jumping lunch break)
As much red, white & blue as you can find.
Also….
There is a Jubilee Jumping class before the lunch break. Everyone gets a special Jubilee rosette and there is a prize for the winner.
It will be an accumulator class with 1minute to jump as many jumps as you can. Each jump has its own value of points and to make sure everyone is catered for, there will be lots of small cross poles close to each other as well as bigger jumps worth more points but those will be more spread out!
Go small and get more jumps in the bag, or go big and waste precious time-the choice is yours! Everyone of all ability levels has a chance to win!
All welcome, £5. Pre-entries preferred but some entries available on the day if there is space.

Another fabulous outing today for our two BD Team Quest teams, this time at Rodbaston College.
Our ESRC Only Fools on Horses Team bagged another win and our ESRC Trotters Team bagged another third place.
Massive well done to all of our riders today Rachel Aspinall, Lynn Aucott, Caroline Suthren, Sarah Platts, Sharon Stokes and Emily Peters - you all smashed it!
Roll on next Sunday for our next outing at Kingswood Equestrian.

Ben Hastie will be photographing most, if not all of the classes. He has a wealth of Equine photography experience as well as weddings and special events.
Ben is also sponsoring our Champions from the Ridden & In-Hand Showing, who will receive free photos of their victories from Ben as a prize.

Our Riding Club is extremely lucky to have so many members willing to help out. Our lessons, fun days, shows, camps, holidays, taster days ….etc do not run themselves! The committee organise these events, however it takes lots of people willing to give up their time to make these amazing things happen.
